Why HIT Like a Girl Pod will Not Attend HIMSS24

We believe in the power of voice, the responsibility of speech, and the profound weight of silence.

HIT Like a Girl a Pod (HITLAG) was built from passion and advocacy for inclusivity and equality in health care and technology. Our moral compass points unwaveringly toward prioritizing the safety, well-being, and respect of our team and community members. We cannot, in good conscience, expose them to potential harm or an environment that condones discrimination.

Current travel advisories have been released to states such as Florida, highlighting stark threats to the safety and dignity of people of color, LGBTQIA+ communities, individuals with accents, and international travelers. These advisories fundamentally clash with the bedrock principles of equality and respect that HITLAG champions.

HIMSS, an organization with a dynamic global network of 120,00 members embodies an intricate tapestry of individuals from diverse professional and personal backgrounds. It is a powerful force in the evolution of health IT and a staunch advocate for equitable healthcare access for all.

Given the discriminatory circumstances prevalent in the state hosting the event, we have consciously decided not to attend HIMSS24 in person.

We remain committed to engaging with the Women in HIT Community. Mighty Works, webinars, and our cross-country #RoadtoHLTH event will allow us to continue contributing to the advancement of health IT, and patient outcomes, and create more paths to leadership positions for girls, women, and gender-expansive identities to follow.

We remain resolute in our belief in equal opportunities and we stand vehemently against any form of discrimination or prejudice.
