Dr. Asha Parekh is defying the odds as the woman behind Front Line Medical Technologies’ COBRA-OS device, the world’s smallest REBOA device to control bleeding. REBOA devices are used in emergency situations to prevent excessive blood loss, which is still a leading cause of death in trauma patients. Most REBOA procedures take about 10 minutes; the COBRA-OS has taken just over a minute in studies – and this difference could mean life or death. The life-saving device recently received Health Canada and FDA approval, marking pivotal steps in the company’s mission to help people survive emergency situations. Dr. Parekh is a co-founder, CEO and biomedical engineer. Additionally, Dr. Parekh is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of women in STEM and changing the fact that women account for less than a third of those in science and research careers. She frequently shares her experience with students to inspire girls and women to explore STEM.
