Early in her medical education, Dr. Elbuluk recognized the dearth of educational materials on skin of color and how skin conditions manifest differently based on the skin’s pigmentation. As she progressed in her clinical training, she developed a deep understanding of skin of color and pigmentary disorders, as well as the psychology behind medical errors and cognitive bias. As a clinical dermatologist, medical school professor, researcher, lecturer, and healthcare IT executive, Dr. Elbuluk has made strides in generating awareness around racial disparities and cognitive bias in healthcare, conducted persuasive research, driven the conversation forward in the industry, and incited unilateral change in the medical profession to meet the needs of patients with darker skin tones.
