Ascom Vice President & Sales Development for Canada. Shelly has more than 20 years of experience in HIT, and I think your listeners would be particularly interested in a recent project she completed with Humber River Hospital, North America’s first fully digital acute-care hospital. The hospital was interested in the concept of ‘early-warning’ scoring – where they could utilize technology at the bedside to automatically detect small changes in patients (like increases in respiratory rate or heart rate) and alerting clinicians to potential concerns. Shelly worked with leaders at Humber River to deploy a first-of-its kind Fetal Alert monitoring system that would monitor infant decelerations and deliver alerts directly to a clinician’s Ascom mobile device to help reduce complications during the birthing process. Many hospital leaders are drawn to the latest features and functions of devices for clinicians. Shelly can share her perspective on why healthcare leaders should focus less on specific capabilities, and more on how technology can actually improve something that happens in the clinical process – whether it’s reducing complications with fetal alert monitoring, determining early warning signs for Sepsis, or carefully monitoring small changes with a COVID-19 patient in the ICU.
